๐Ÿ“– The storm arrived before dawn.

The wind screamed against the cliffs, waves clashing like thunder against the rocks below. Cullen Bay vanished beneath a shroud of rain.


I was stranded at the lighthouse.

The roads had flooded, and the fishermen’s boats were tied tightly at the harbor. I could see faint lights below — silhouettes of men braving the storm, securing their nets before the tide could take them.


Inside, Elliot worked silently, trimming the lantern wick. The lighthouse groaned under the weight of the wind. Then, the power cut.

Darkness.

Only the beam of the lantern sliced through the chaos.


I could hear the sea… and something else. A faint cry.

“Someone’s out there!” I shouted.

Elliot didn’t flinch. His voice was calm, too calm.

“There’s no one there, Lara. Not tonight.”


But I saw it — a flicker of white near the rocks. I ran to the door, but he blocked my way.

“Elliot, someone could be drowning!”

He grabbed my wrist. His hands trembled. “You don’t understand… every storm, I hear her too.”


The name slipped out of his mouth like a prayer. “Maeve.”


That’s when I realized — he wasn’t keeping the light for sailors anymore.

He was keeping it for her.


Outside, the fishermen at the harbor said they saw no one in the sea that night — only the light, 

swaying wildly in the storm.
