π Episode 2 – The Man in the Lighthouse

They said the lighthouse had stood for more than a hundred years — a witness to storms, shipwrecks, and love stories that never reached shore.
I didn’t expect that one of those stories was still alive… living inside the man who kept its light burning.
His name was Elliot Gray, a former marine engineer who had lost his wife during a ferry accident eight years ago. Since then, he’d chosen isolation — keeping the lighthouse as his sanctuary and punishment.
When I started volunteering at the local clinic, I often walked by to deliver medicine for the fishermen. That’s how our conversations began — short, quiet, almost hesitant.
“Do you ever get tired of being alone?” I asked once, as we watched the horizon fade into dusk.
He smiled faintly, his gaze fixed on the waves.
“Solitude isn’t loneliness… unless you start missing someone.”
For a moment, I didn’t answer. Because maybe, in different ways, we were both missing someone.
That night, I saw him light the beacon through my window.
And I wondered… who was he guiding now — lost ships, or lost souls?
