๐Ÿ“–  The morning after the storm, the air smelled of salt and burnt oil. The sea had calmed — but not my heart.


Elliot stood by the lighthouse railing, staring into the gray horizon. His hands trembled slightly as he held a small rusted locket.


“I wasn’t supposed to keep it,” he said quietly.

I stepped closer. “What do you mean?”


He opened the locket — inside was a faded photograph of a woman in a white dress, standing beside the old lighthouse. Maeve.


“She wasn’t just a keeper,” he said, his voice low and breaking. “She was my wife.”


My breath caught. “You… you’re—”


“She drowned out there,” he continued, eyes glistening. “Not by accident. She followed me. I was supposed to leave on that boat. But I didn’t. I was afraid. The storm took her instead.”


Silence. Only the sound of the tide returning to shore.


He placed the locket in my hand. “Every time I fix that light, I hear her voice. She keeps me here. Maybe she’s keeping you, too.”


For the first time, I saw the truth — the sea wasn’t cursed. It was haunted by love that refused to die.
