> Coming home after months at sea felt like waking up from a long dream.

The smell of land, the laughter of my mother, and Janice’s voice — all of it felt like I was home again.


I brought stories from the ocean, pictures of ports, and small souvenirs from places I never thought I’d reach.

But the best gift I brought home was time — time to start the life we’d been dreaming of.


With the savings from my first contract, we began to build our own house in San Juan.

It wasn’t grand — just a simple two-bedroom home with wide windows facing the coconut fields.

Jude and Mariel helped us during weekends; laughter and banter filled the air as walls slowly rose and a dream began to take shape.


“This will be ours,” Janice said as we placed the first furniture inside, “our forever home.”


I smiled and nodded, believing her.


Back then, I didn’t know that a house could stand strong even when love inside it starts to crumble.
