> Sundays used to be my rest days.
But after I met Janice, they became something I looked forward to — not for rest, but for reason.
Every Sunday, I’d drive back to Lunao — sometimes to deliver coconuts, sometimes just to see her.
I’d bring small things: mangoes from our backyard, bread from my mother, and once, a small seashell I found near the shore.
She would laugh at my excuses.
“You don’t have to bring anything,” she’d say.
But deep inside, I think she knew those were my ways of saying, I missed you.
Sometimes, her cousin Mariel would join us, and my best friend Jude Cañasa would tag along.
Four of us — sharing stories under the shade of coconut trees, talking about dreams that felt so simple back then.
To others, they were just Sunday visits.
But to me… every Sunday felt like a promise — that no matter how far I’d sail one day, there would always be someone waiting back home.
