We met again by chance — at a small café near the port where I used to dock my ship.
She was my old high school classmate, two years younger.
I still remembered her smile — calm, simple, and unpretending.
Life hadn’t been kind to her either.
Her husband had left years ago, and she was raising a little boy on her own.
A five-year-old with curious eyes and a laugh that reminded me of the life I once prayed for.
When I found out I couldn’t have a child of my own, I thought it was another curse.
But when I met her son, I realized maybe I wasn’t meant to have one —
I was meant to raise one.
We built a quiet home in Tagaytay.
No noise, no judgment, just warmth — the kind you don’t question, you simply thank God for.
Some nights, when the wind passes through the trees, she’d tease me:
“You still miss the sea, don’t you?”
And I’d smile.
“No,” I’d say. “I miss who I was when I was lost. But I love who I’ve become — with you.”
Eliana didn’t save me.
She reminded me that I was already found.
