> The sea became my home again.

But this time, I wasn’t running away — I was learning how to breathe again.


I was promoted to Captain that year.

Twenty years since I first stepped on deck, and for the first time, the ocean felt like peace instead of pain.


Every night, I’d stand by the bridge, watching the horizon fade into the sky.

The same stars that once reminded me of Janice now reminded me of everything I survived.


My crew would laugh, play music, and talk about their families.

I’d smile — not out of envy, but gratitude. Because I once had that, and I knew how fragile it could be.


I kept one photo in my cabin — our old house in San Juan, beside the coconut trees.

Sometimes, when the wind blew hard against the hull, I’d close my eyes and whisper…

“Lord, if she’s still out there, I hope she’s safe.”


The ocean taught me one truth:

Not every love is meant to last —

but every love teaches you how to live.
