> I was granted emergency leave.


My father had fallen ill, and I needed to go home.

But something inside me whispered that there was another reason I needed to return — something unspoken that had been waiting for me on land.


I didn’t tell Janice I was coming.

I wanted to surprise her.


The taxi stopped in front of our condo.

I remember carrying a small bag — gifts from abroad, a necklace I bought from Dubai, and a letter I had written on my last night at sea.


The lobby guard looked surprised.

“Sir, matagal nang walang nakatira d’yan,” he said softly.


My chest tightened. I rode the elevator anyway.


When the door opened, everything was gone.

No furniture, no photos — just the echo of a home that used to be ours.


I stepped outside and saw a familiar truck parked nearby —

Jude’s.


And beside it, Janice.


She was pregnant.


For a moment, time stopped.

The lending officer arrived, holding repossession papers — both vehicles, the condo, everything under her name.

I heard him say, “Ma’am, your signature’s needed.”


My heart fell silent. I didn’t say a word.

I just turned away, tears falling before I could hide them.


Some heartbreaks don’t explode.

They just end — quietly, completely, finally.
