📍 Manila – Indian Ocean – 2020 (COVID-19 Lockdown)


> 2020 — the year the world stopped moving.

But for seafarers like us, the sea didn’t stop. We kept sailing, carrying goods for countries that never saw our faces.


I was stuck on board for months beyond my contract — ports were closed, flights canceled, and home felt like a dream.


Every night, I’d open my inbox, hoping to see a message from Janice.

Sometimes there was one — short, simple, distant.

“Be safe. Don’t worry about me.”


I’d reply long letters — updates about the crew, the weather, my dreams of coming home —

but most of them stayed unread.


The Wi-Fi signal was weak, but her silence was stronger.


My friends on board joked to keep their minds off their own pain. Some received video calls, others fought with their wives.

I just stared at an empty screen.


In the middle of the vast ocean, surrounded by calm water and quiet stars,

I realized —

Sometimes, love doesn’t end in noise.

It ends when the letters stop coming,

and the silence answers everything you’re afraid to ask.
