> I came home that March — just for a week.

Janice wasn’t expecting me, so I wanted to surprise her.

But that trip never happened. A storm warning canceled all flights, so I stayed on board and waited for clearance.

During that time, Jude messaged me.

“Bro, I’ll be in Manila soon for business. Maybe I can check on Janice for you?”

I said yes — grateful, even. He was the one person I thought I could trust with her safety.

That night, I called Janice. She said she was fine, just busy with errands.

Her voice was calm, too calm. I didn’t sense anything wrong.

But days later, my cousin sent me a photo —

Janice, sitting inside a café.

And beside her… Jude.

My heart didn’t break. It just went quiet.

Because sometimes, pain doesn’t scream — it just stands there, staring at the proof you never wanted to see.

I told myself, “Maybe it’s nothing.”

But deep down, I already knew.
