The Stories of Us Present -Episode 7 – Her Second Chance
Every evening, when her shift ended, I noticed something unusual. Instead of going straight home, she would carry an old notebook and a secondhand bag.
She was going back to school.
I watched from a distance the first time she walked into the night classes near our office. She sat quietly at the back, trying to keep up with the lessons. She was older than most of her classmates, and I could see the awkwardness in her eyes. But I also saw something else — determination.
She struggled, yes. Sometimes her hands still smelled of cleaning chemicals as she turned the pages of her books. Sometimes she would doze off, fighting sleep after long hours of work. But she never gave up.
And while she didn’t know, I made sure the company quietly adjusted her schedule. She didn’t notice that her supervisor always gave her time off just enough to make it to class. That was me. I wanted her to succeed — even if she never found out who I was.
Night after night, I watched her grow. For the first time, I didn’t see the girl who bullied me. I saw a woman learning to fight her own battles, the way I once had to.
But deep inside, one thought haunted me: When the time comes, will she ever forgive herself for what she did to me?
