The Stories of Us Present - Episode 10 – Forgiveness

 

She sat across from me, her hands trembling as she wiped her tears. The silence in the room was heavy, almost unbearable.


Finally, she spoke, her voice breaking:

“All these years… I carried nothing but pride and foolishness. And when life turned against me, I realized how cruel I had been. I destroyed you back then, and now, karma destroyed me.”


Her words stabbed at me, but not the way I expected. I didn’t feel victory. I felt the ache of all the years we had both lost.


I leaned forward, my voice low but steady.

“You didn’t destroy me. Yes, you hurt me. But those scars… they shaped me. Without them, I wouldn’t be who I am today. You gave me pain, but that pain gave me strength.”


She looked at me, eyes swollen, lips trembling.

“Then why… why did you still help me? Why didn’t you let me fall?”


I smiled bitterly, my chest tightening with emotions I could barely contain.

“Because even when you made me feel worthless… I never stopped seeing you as more than my bully. Somewhere inside me, I kept hoping you’d find your way. Maybe… maybe I just couldn’t let go.”


She covered her face again, sobbing.

“I don’t deserve forgiveness.”


I stood, walked around the desk, and gently placed my hand on her shoulder. She froze. Then slowly, she looked up at me.


“You do,” I whispered. “Not because you earned it. But because holding on to hate will never heal either of us. Let’s stop living in the shadows of what we were.”


Her tears fell freely, but this time there was relief in them. She nodded slowly, as if a heavy chain had finally been lifted.


And in that moment, forgiveness wasn’t just given. It was shared.
